| Expat Judge Internet Toughguy | Patterson is no great loss. Hopefully his badly written crime novels will follow suit. Salinger....that sucks. But shit happens I guess..... |

I read half a Patterson book once. The name of the protagonist was Ned Kelly. It's the only thing I remember about the book as I remember thinking, "I hope the ghost of Ned Kelly shoots this hack for putting his name in such a crappy book." Oh, and there was the car chase where the hero escaped by jumping a motorbike over a draw bridge. I remember that bit because I remember thinking, "Gee, this stunt was much cooler when I actually saw it in a dozen different movies/television shows. Yeah, Patterson can fuck right off and die. Oh, he already did. Sorry. __________________ "When you're in jail... in some hick town... and you're takin' it up the ass from Otis the drunk, don't call me. You'll be on your own, bro." The mistress who wrote a book about their affair claimed he had several manuscripts squirreled away back in the day. __________________ Let's get liberated! -Peggy Olson |

As all the obits are noting, Salinger was a great, great writer with a real ear for dialogue. He changed how everyone after him wrote. I don't think it is James Patterson who died, but Robert Parker - il miglior fabbro (as Pepp has now noted). It would be something if Patterson had, having been profiled in the NYTimes just last Sunday: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/24/ma...tterson&st=cse The article talks about Patterson's first novel, which apparently was a very good noir, but didn't sell well. He could have been a great writer, but tossed it aside in favor of writing a lot and getting a lot of readers. Salinger just tossed it all aside. __________________ Все будет правильно, на этом построен мир. --Михаил Булгаков, Мастер и Маргарита ^1st ExpatKorea Sig of the Week Champion!^ Bir gün bir kitap okudum ve bütün hayatım değişti. -- Orhan Pamuk, Yeni Hayat |
