Abandoned Amusement Park

I've been getting all sorts of tips on abandoned amusement parks in Korea lately. Last weekend I visited Seoul Dreamland only to find that it had already been demolished, and this weekend I went to Suwon to look for Woncheon Greenland. Actually, I ended up finding Woncheon Lakeland, which was also abandoned.

1. I feel somewhat nostalgic about the place because this is where I lived for my first year in Korea. This station is also where I met my wife for the very first time.

2. So we got to the location, and the first thing we saw from the road was this sight. Feeling deja vu, I told my companions that this was not the time to get their hopes up.

3. We found a gate leading into the resort, which I knew to include a reservoir and who knows what other (non-abandoned) stuff. Note the dent on the right side. Looks like a truck took a turn too fast.

4. Signs of demolition were everywhere. I kept wondering which of these spots had been the amusement park. Rather than go look, we continued following the road.

5. Then there was a sign of hope.

6. Champion Punch!

7. Castle of Horror!

8. Looks like it dispenses brick-sized Pez.

9.

10. Too many places to go all at once. I was feeling sensory overload.

I've got a ton more photos to put up, but I'm already at 35 and I'm probably not even a third of the way through. If you want to see the Castle of Horror, the ferris wheel, bumper cars, sharp nipples, and one of Suwon's famous washrooms, and some of the most beautiful abandoned restaurants in Korea, let me know.

17. That's not Korean.

18. Firetruck ride.

19. There was a viking ship there identical to the one in Okpo Land.

20. All these upside-down boat rides in Korea are always supposed to be viking-themed, and they are actually named "Viking." I had to explain to my wife later that in other countries they can have different themes, such as pirates as in my hometown.

The whole park had no power, so I doubt anything would've happened.

I guessed that the park had had the power cut, but i still would have turned the key (just in case).

There seem to be a lot of crappy little amusement parks around Korea. I've know of several that are still operating, but obviously on their last leg. I'm not quite sure how they can afford to stay in business.

30. I never did get a good picture of that squirrel thing. It's in a very inconvenient place. This whole time, there was loud adult contemporary music coming from somewhere to the left of this picture.

Oh, by the way, remember how I mentioned in my first post that I'll get to photos of some of the most beautiful abandoned restaurants? You can see two of them in the background of that last picture.

Bannana spiders freak me out. I remember passing through a bamboo grove in Hawaii years ago and walking straight into a huge web with a big honking nasty bannana spider in the middle. I wouldn't wish an up close encounter with one of those big nasty arachnids on anyone

Maybe. I will definitely tell you when I'm going. When's the last time you laid eyes on the place? Someone on Dave's sent me a few pictures, but it looked like he didn't infiltrate it.
