Default Dead Mall in Bundang

A dead mall is a "shopping mall with a high vacancy rate or a low consumer traffic level, or that is dated or deteriorating in some manner." The most common cause of a mall's death is the lack or loss of an anchor store (one of the big establishments like a supermarket or a department store). It means there's a lot less traffic circulating inside.

This place isn't totally dead, as there's a grocery store on the third floor, a bus terminal on the main and sublevel 1, and a movie theatre on sublevel 2. However, sublevel 3 is totally vacant and a large part of sublevels 2, 1, and the main floor are empty.

Some of you in the Yatap area will likely recognise this place. It has a very good Catholic fried chicken place inside (Pope Yes), but it got its ass handed to it when Kim's Club opened.

You can see the bottom level is totally empty. The other two levels here are only partly used.

This appears to be a fountain that will never be used.

Looking up.

Mannequins.

If it weren't for the lights I could convince you it was long abandoned.

Found way in the back.

I was caught by security at the bottom of this escalator. I asked where the food court was and he let me go.

Been there many times, but I don't remember why. I think we saw a movie once and went shopping once. I think it used to be a Carrefour upstairs.

nice work.

there is a mall in toowoomba, near where i live, that is for all intents and purposes dead, but refuses to die. it has an anchor store i guess but it is just an old supermarket with limited hours. all the shops look like they are struggling. even the customers look like they are struggling. there is a cd shop there that sells nothing but cheap budget cd's. the shops all close rather early but the mall itself remains open. it's spooky to walk through here when the shops are shut. i must take some photos one day.

I actually do find it a pretty useful building and go there once a week. My work is right next door.

By the way, I'm making another move on Nasan tomorrow, so hopefully next week I'll have lots of neat pictures of the interior.

Used to go to that old Carrefour there every week for shopping, reasaonably good cheese and wine. At night that place is actually quite creepy in certain areas. It felt almost as though you shouldn't be in there. I used to work just across the small river in Arumauel.

Nice pictures

Neat, I love stuff like that.

Back when I lived in Bundang the buildings behind the Carrefour in Ori was kind of like that. In one there was a movie theater on the top floor, a food court below it, and a few booths on each level. The other---joined together by a little skybridge---there was a big toystore, a couple restaurants, a few clothing booths, some kind of Teddy Bear museum, and that's it. I think they put a hagwon or an English Town on one level, though. But that was nearly two years ago.

I live right around the corner from that place. Bit weird comparing the traffic it received to the Kim's Club one block away.

in shihwa there were vacant buildings everywhere. new buildings that had never been occupied. easy to get into most of them. i lived in a building for a while in which i was the only tenant. the rooms on top floor were open. in fact i suspect the building may have been condemned. some of the floors were not level and the headspace in the stairwell was very low in places.

i went there again a couple of years after i left there and the same old empty buildings were still there - still empty. strange time warp.

RACETRAITOR, I really think you should try to get into that building in Mok-doing between Mokdong station, Omokgyo station and the Homeplus. In the middle of my virtual triangle. I presume they still aren't doing anything with it. Please go and take some pictures, so I can live vicariously through you.

It was pretty much the same the last time I saw that place in 2003. Can't believe it was 5 years ago.

Where is Shihwa? I'd love to see more photos of that area.

What exactly is it again? You said it was a construction site abandoned during construction?

This morning at 7:30am I got up to get into a fully abandoned department store in Gangnam. Lots of stuff left behind on the main floor but the rest of it is empty.

shihwa is the area around jeongwangdong and oido station - at the end of the light blue line - out past ansan. ansan itself is also worth a look.

i have some more photos among my archives.... didn't have a very good camera with me while i was in korea in those days. will see what i can find.

I am pretty sure that's the case. It's about a 20 story building that I just think that was never finished. You can see it clear as day on google earth. Go to the park that is right in front of the SBS building and then go 250 metres to the south-west. Here it is.

Sounds cool, I think I'll have to go out there sometime. Maybe hit up Gwangmyung and Oido on a weekend. I've never seen abandoned homes quite like that before. Very odd.

Every time I post something related to urban exploration on here, I get lots of great suggestions.

I've been a little wary of going to that one, partly because it's out of my way and partly because I've got a 0 for 2 record for construction sites.

You've seen the Grand Mart Department Store in Balsan before.

Here's a beautiful old hulk in Busan that a couple friends took me to. Sealed up equally tight as Grand Mart.

I will get around to checking out this place. I should've checked out Nasan Homeplace a lot sooner than I did, so I won't make the same mistake twice.
