By the way, kitekid asked about the Catholic Fried Chicken restaurant I mentioned--it's Pope Yes.

I just spent some time checking out your blog Racetraitor, that's a pretty cool hobby, nice pictures. How did this all get started ? If I missed the explanation elsewhere a link would be cool.....

I got into it because a friend back home was doing it. He enlisted my help in exposing a detective who was harassing the urban explorers in our province.

We all did stuff like this when we were young though, right? Exploring construction sites, setting up forts in old abandoned barns, hunting for ghosts in haunted houses. Here's some information along with links for you to learn more.

The term "urban exploration" was invented by a Canadian operating out of Toronto. He published a zine called Infiltration that covered topics ranging from exploring subway tunnels to sneaking into hotels to use the pool without being a guest.

The focus on abandoned stuff comes from the Americans, who have a wonderful selection of abandoned asylums known as Kirkbrides. You can read about them here.

There are also a lot of urban explorers who explore storm drains. The group I know most about is from Australia, the Cave Clan:

Basically, wherever you're from, there are derelict, abandoned, and forbidden buildings that urban explorers raid for the main purpose of taking pictures. The best resource is UER, which has photographers from all around the world and an extensive database of sites to visit, and where I post pictures regularly under the same username.

Urban exploration is a big thing in Japan (not surprisingly) and it's picked up quite a bit in China. In Japan you have to drive way out into the countryside to find anything, but China's crawling with suitable sites.

Unfortunately, the only Korean urban explorer I'm aware of is my wife. Not counting Korean-American Miru Kim, who takes NSFW self-portraits in horrifyingly unsanitary locations.

The pictures of her lying atop piles of bones in the Paris Catacombs are particularly striking.

Not quite sure what to make of them, actually.
