It's OK... he's going undercover, hence I removed my post. He's been cleared of all charges the plans to serve his balls for lunch have been shelved.

    1) The reporters checked to see if the guy in the first picture was really a pastor; turned out he wasn't, and fled when confronted with this evidence. They went to 이만희 directly to ask, but he just talked around and around and avoided the question. Then they put a tracker on the car of the parents of some brainwashed girl and viciously followed them. When the parents found it, they went to the police, and were immediately followed there by a team of 신천지 lawyers. The police confronted the lawyers with (something about sentencing; I'm not quite sure) and the lawyers gave up. The reporters went back to 만희 and called him a swindler (again, not 100% sure about what was said). They make students give them collection money while writing their names on envelopes and they also make a list of who's given the most. The students have no money left for anything while 만희 buys up land and buildings with it. The guy in the hospital bed is a former follower who's now in a vegetative state, but they never explain why. Finally, there was a letter from a mom who claims her 22-year-old daughter was kidnapped by the cult.

    2) This one is very long; I'll take a look at it later.

    3) Won't play on my computer.

    4) Wow. Um, this is from people who claim to be former members/victims (피해자) of 신천지. They say the cult gives people sleeping pills at their counselling centres and then kidnaps them and forces them to convert. If they don't, they win a trip to a mental hospital. These particular people said they voluntarily gave up their lives for the cult, believed all the crap about the cult taking over the world and whatever, and now think it's all lies.

Thank you so much for that. Drinks (plural, that's not a typo!) are on me next time.

Okay, the second one seems to be some kind of online bulletin board collecting information/stories against 신천지. Might be worth checking out the pages it links to at the bottom - I'm not really clear on what that's all about. Most of all that text is just rules for submitting stuff, terms of use, that kind of stuff.

I received my first call for help about Mannam! From a former colleague (Suwonfish knows him) who wronged me in the past. We were playing a big killer game and he killed me. Against the rules I might add. Totally against the rules. In a safe zone no less! A safe zone! Well just outside it actually, but he tricked me into leaving it. There was no hot chick outside wanting to speak to me! It was all a lie! He made the whole fucking thing up! Back me up here Mr. Fish.

That's why I hate cults. They trick people too. I know what it's like to be tricked. It hurts. It hurts a lot.

Mannam is all over his uni.
I told him they were legit.

If it's the guy who I'm thinking of he also used the rules to break the rules when killing me... Man, I hate those guys who cheat by playing fair
He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends.

Is Lee Man Hee a former Moonie? I recall reading it somewhere...but I don't remember where. Seems like all these "Korean Jesus" guys are former members of that cult.

Apparently not if this is true, and it seems incredibly well researched. But he did graduate up from earlier cults, which is quite common for these cult leader types. They don't learn to be cult leaders by working at McDonald's (no offence McDonald's.. wait... that was a compliment I think).

And the guy behind the site hadn't heard of Mannam before, We exchanged some emails and he later recalled seeing members wearing Mannam T-shirts, but the name didn't mean anything to him at the time. He's not based in Korea, so he he's missing out on all the Mannam action.

He added this to his site yesterday. And he knows of Mannam's chick president. I was told she wasn't part of Lee's church, but I was told that by a Mannam member who had lied to me in the past. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, double shame on you and just a little bit of shame on me.

And the translation of that vid came online today.. Argh it doesn't offer anything we didn't already know. Bugger:

    Comments are good though.

And if someone else says I sound like a fanatic, I'll reply, "I'm still in first gear".

And if anyone's interested, I'm trying to summarize everything about Mannam in one giant photo and video filled thread on my site. Still a work in progress. It's growing in the telling..

I love the guy who posted in support of Mannam in the comments! His first post was about how perfect Mannam was. I mentioned a few things I found imperfect: Experience Japanese torture event etc etc. he replied, "Oh yeah I noticed all those negative points too"

Oh I can't keep you guys waiting!

"This guy details all about the mannam doctrine to new mannam members, he was preaching to new mannam members for 7 years before he quit. He quit because he realized the members were insane, he has been busy exposing all of its secrets. He mentions the recruitment of foreigners is to bring in more Koreans."

Over at Korea Bridgeis an advert for Mannam Day. It was also posted on its facebook earlier this morning.
    http://koreabridge.net/event/mannam-...september-2012

And it says transport and shirts for 2,000. So I guess the guy who posted 20,000 in the add in the Daegu section (waegook site) added a zero.. by mistake, or maybe it was deliberate? Still transport for 2,000. That's still a lot. 40 buses? How much does a bus cost to hire? And is that in addition to the 2,000 mentioned in the Daegu add?
And the free T-shirts of course. And the venue can't be free.

Epic post at the JMS cult site. I linked it in my follow-up at Dave's...I hope that's okay. I think the main problem is that many people who are involved in Mannam and even Shin Chong Ji may honestly not know it is a cult. I'm guessing that they (SCJ lawyers and PR drones) have done some reading about the "Church" of Scientology's efforts to improve their PR situation by discouraging the use of the word "cult" in reference to their group. Thus, a lot of well-meaning foreigners who naturally want to be involved in something positive and attempt to really dive into their Korean experience get caught up in this kind of thing. Although they have not yet revealed to be as dangerous as JMS...they do seem at least as predatory from a financial standpoint and in their attempts to influence others. Since they are everywhere these days, people are entitled to know who they are getting involved with and what their agenda is. I tried to discuss it on Facebook, but the foreigners I spoke to were either oblivious to the connection or denied it outright.

Have you made a post on Dave's yet, Captain? Would it be okay if I did? Maybe the best thing to do would be to simply say that a blogger is writing about Mannam and would really like to hear from people who have attended the events...as many as possible, to get a good read on what their events consist of and how they are perceived by the foreign attendees. This is the kind of approach, in observing the Captain's other efforts to provide info about similar groups, might yield the best results in terms of getting feedback to base conclusions on.

Also...have you gotten any sense that this group is at all dangerous? Could one be courting a beating, vandalism, or harassment by discussing them in terms other than glowing, slack-jawed awe?

It's all starting to come together. Yeah, the whole recruiting foreigners to recruit Koreans thing makes total sense. It's certainly a tried-and-tested formula here.

And I love that Korea Bridge post; holy fuck the person writing that probably had to replace the ! key three times. It's very clear that for now all they're marketing to foreigners is enthusiasm and

    Dynamic International Sports Competitions!

    Inspiring and Majestic Cultural Performances!

Variety of Exotic Food and Cultural Experiencing Booths!
    Massive Mass Game!

    World-Record-Breaking Monument!
Festival of Lights! The Greatest Laser Show!
In essence, treating us like monkeys to attract Koreans to the zoo.
